Addiction To Ambien - Articles Surfing

Ambien induces sleep and causes relaxation. It is used to treat sleep disorders such as trouble falling asleep, waking up many times during the night, or waking up too early in the morning. It is classified as a CNS depressant. Despite the beneficial effect, Ambien has the potential for addiction and should be used only as prescribed. During the first few days of taking Ambien, a person usually feels sleepy and uncoordinated, but as the body becomes accustomed to the effects of the drug, these feelings begin to disappear. If one uses these drugs long term, the body will develop tolerance for the drugs, and larger doses will be needed to achieve the same initial effects. In addition, continued use can lead to ambien addiction and withdrawal.

Ambien is a widely prescribed drug used for treating sleep disorders. Unfortunately, it is also a controlled substance, and addiction to Ambien is not uncommon. Ambien causes feelings of euphoria and drowsiness, and can heighten the effects of alcohol and illegal drugs. The body also tends to build a tolerance to Ambien, causing you to require higher doses in order to maintain the effects. If you are suffering from an addiction to Ambien, take heart, there's hope. There are many treatment options available for those who are afflicted by addictions to prescription drugs, including rehabilitation centers, and out-patient counseling. There have been many cases of people successfully recovering from an addiction to ambien; and there is no reason why you cannot be one more. Talk to your doctor if you think you may have developed an addiction to the drug, or if you think you may be developing one.

For those who are currently suffering from an addiction to Ambien, a supervised detoxification period is recommended. As with any narcotic, stopping the drug cold turkey may result in withdrawal symptoms ranging from mild shakes and nausea, to more severe seizures. It is recommended that you complete a total in-patient rehabilitation program if you have become addicted to Ambien, so that you can be monitored for signs of severe withdrawal symptoms, as well as for depression. If you do choose to attempt to fight your addiction to Ambien on your own, be certain that you have a solid support system in place first. Friends and family that will support you in your efforts are an essential part of stopping any type of addictive behavior. If you do not have this type of support system, you should join a group, such as Narcotics Anonymous, that will offer you help and support while you are becoming drug free.

Other treatment options to help you break free from your addiction to Ambien include out-patient counseling centers. In addition to offering you the option of group sessions that will allow you to get support from others who are also battling an addiction, these counseling centers monitor you for any sort of destructive behavior that may occur as a result of withdrawal from the drug. Whatever type of treatment option you choose, it is imperative that you seek help. If you think that you may be suffering from an addiction to Ambien, talk to your doctor, clergy, health center, or a trusted friend, and get help with breaking your addiction to Ambien today.
